Quick Fix
Want to hide most sponsored links? In Google Chrome 124, go to Settings → Search settings → Ads and flip off “Show sponsored links.” For blanket blocking, grab uBlock Origin (Chrome Web Store, version 1.54.0 or later) and tick the EasyList and EasyPrivacy filters.
What’s really going on behind those “Sponsored” labels?
Those “Sponsored” or “Ad” tags mark paid placements triggered by keywords advertisers bid on in Google’s lightning-fast auctions. You’ll usually find them at the top and bottom of the page, completely separate from the organic results that rank naturally. Fun fact: your click only costs the advertiser—never more than their max bid—and these paid slots have zero impact on how other sites rank. (That’s straight from Google Ads Help.)
Need to turn off the labels in Chrome? Here’s how (works in 2026 too)
- Fire up Google Chrome 124 or newer.
- Hit the three-dot menu → Settings → Search settings (or just paste chrome://settings/search in the address bar).
- Scroll down to Ads and switch Show sponsored links to Off.
- Restart Chrome. The labels vanish, though unlabeled ads can still sneak in on some searches.
- Want a heavier hand? Head to chrome://extensions, grab uBlock Origin (version 1.54.0 or newer), and flip on EasyList and EasyPrivacy under Dashboard → Filter lists.
