FXM on DIRECTV is typically on channel 258 in HD/SD, or you can stream it live if your package includes FX—no extra hardware required.
What’s going on with FXM?
FXM is a linear channel that shows classic and contemporary films, currently on DIRECTV channel 258 in both SD and HD.
Think of it as two channels in one. From 3 a.m. to 3 p.m., you get classic movies without commercials. Then from 3 p.m. to 3 a.m., it switches to contemporary films with limited ads. Honestly, this split programming makes it feel like a mini-movie marathon whenever you tune in.
How do I fix it if FXM is missing from my guide?
- Check channel 258 first Hit the Guide button on your remote, scroll to channel 258, then press OK. If FXM pops up, you’re golden. If not, keep going.
- Make sure your package includes FX/FXM DIRECTV bundles FX/FXM into certain packages like Entertainment, Choice, Ultimate, or Premier. Hit Menu → Packages & Equipment → View Channels in My Package. Look for “FX” or “FXM.” If they’re missing, upgrade your plan on DIRECTV.com or call 1-800-DIRECTV.
- Give your receiver a quick reboot
Unplug the power for 30 seconds, then plug it back in. Wait for the green “TV” light to come back on. Once it’s back up, refresh your channels:
- DIRECTV Stream boxes: Settings → System → Reset & Troubleshoot → Reset Whole System.
- Genie Mini clients: Menu → Settings → Reset → Reset Client.
- Update your receiver’s software
Outdated firmware can mess with your channel lineup. Check it like this:
- DIRECTV Stream: Settings → System → Software Update → Check for Updates.
- HD-DVR receivers: Menu → Help & Settings → System Info → scroll to “Software Version.” If it’s below 4.61.0 (as of March 2026), force an update via Menu → Settings → System → Software Update → Update Receiver.
- Rescan your channels DIRECTV Stream: Settings → Channels → Rescan Channels. HD-DVR receivers: Menu → Settings → Channels → Channel List Setup → Rescan Channels. This takes 10–15 minutes, so don’t unplug anything mid-process.
