How Do You Watch Sports On Dish?

If your Dish box can’t find Investigation Discovery where it should be—usually channel 192—try forcing a quick refresh first. If that doesn’t work, check Dish’s support site to see if the channel moved. Honestly, these lineup changes happen more often than you’d think, especially when contracts get renegotiated.

What’s going on with Investigation Discovery?

Investigation Discovery (ID) is a true-crime channel owned by Warner Bros. Discovery.

On Dish, it’s usually at channel 192, but that can change when Discovery and Dish hash out new carriage deals. If you’re staring at a blank spot where ID used to be, it’s probably been moved or removed from your package during a lineup refresh.

Here’s how to fix it

Start with a power cycle and signal refresh.
  1. Power cycle your Dish receiver
    • Unplug the power cord from the back of the box.
    • Wait about 30 seconds, then plug it back in.
    • Hit the Power button on the front panel or your remote.
  2. Run a signal refresh (software update)
    • Press Menu on your remote.
    • Go to Settings → Diagnostics → Signal Check.
    • Let the scan run—it’ll take about 1–2 minutes.
    • Press Exit twice to get back to your show.
  3. Check channel 192 manually
    • Open the Guide, scroll to channel 192.
    • If it’s blank or says “Not Available,” press and hold the Info button.
    • Pick Change Channel, then type in 192.
  4. Confirm your package includes ID
    • Log in to your Dish account.
    • Go to My Channels and search for “Investigation Discovery.”
    • If it shows up but is grayed out, you don’t actually have it in your current package.
  5. Call Dish support
    • Dial *2 from your Dish phone or call 1-800-333-3474.
    • Ask them to verify the current channel for ID and whether it’s active on your account.

Still not working? Try these

  • Stream it instead

As of 2026, Investigation Discovery is on Max (formerly HBO Max) and Philo. If you’ve got Max, just download the app, sign in, and search for “Investigation Discovery.” No cable login needed—it’s that simple.

  • Check Discovery’s free episodes

Warner Bros. Discovery sometimes puts full episodes of ID shows up for free on Discovery’s site. The free window rotates, so keep an eye out.

  • Test with a direct connection

Plug your Dish box straight into the TV with an HDMI cable. If ID shows up now, the problem’s with your TV settings or a bad connection. If it’s still missing, the issue’s on Dish’s side.

How to keep this from happening again

  • Update your lineup regularly

Dish rolls out automatic updates every Tuesday night. If you skip updates for months, you might miss a channel move. To force one, go to Settings → System → Software Update and hit Check for Updates.

  • Save a screenshot of your channels

Dish shuffles the lineup twice a year, usually in January and July. Snap a screenshot of your current channels and save it in your phone’s photos. When a channel vanishes, you’ll know exactly when it moved.

  • Turn on Auto-Renew for packages

In your Dish account, go to My Account → Manage Packages and enable Auto-Renew. That way, if a contract expires and isn’t renewed automatically, you won’t lose channels by accident.
