How Do You Type Exponents On WileyPlus?

Quick Fix: Hit the exponent button in WileyPLUS’s math editor or type for scientific notation. No extra tools required.

What’s going on here?

WileyPLUS handles math notation through its content editor, complete with a toolbar full of symbols and templates. Exponents show up either via the built-in exponent formatting or plain-text scientific notation. Since 2024, the platform’s made math input easier with a dedicated math palette that pops up in most assignment and quiz editors.

Here’s how to do it

  1. Open your assignment or quiz in WileyPLUS.

  2. Look for the math editor toolbar—it appears automatically when you click into a math input field.

  3. Pick one of these methods:

    • Exponent template: Click the xy template icon in the toolbar, then type in your base and exponent.
    • Scientific notation: Type your number (e.g., 3.2), then E+ or E– followed by the exponent (e.g., 3.2E+05).
  4. Hit save or submit—you’re done.

Still not working?

  • Try keyboard shortcuts: In the math editor, press Ctrl+Shift+P (Windows) or Cmd+Shift+P (Mac) to open the symbol palette, then pick exponent formatting.

  • Fallback to plain text: If the toolbar’s missing, type caret notation (e.g., x^2 or x**2)—WileyPLUS usually reads this as exponents.

  • Check your browser: Make sure you’re running Chrome 124+, Firefox 124+, Edge 124+, or Safari 17+ as of 2026. Older versions sometimes mess up the math toolbar.

How to avoid future headaches

  • Type math expressions directly in WileyPLUS—don’t copy from Word or Google Docs, or the formatting might break.

  • Hit the preview button in the editor to double-check how your exponent looks before submitting.

  • Update your browser every few months to keep the math toolbar working smoothly.

  • If your course uses Examity, turn off browser extensions during proctored exams to stop them from interfering with the toolbar.
